The Chip Stack How To Play

Winning Tips for Omaha Poker The first important thing to remember when playing Omaha is that it is different from Texas Hold'em. The same strategy being used in Texas Hold'em will not help you to play Omaha profitably. Starting Hands in Omaha are also very different, for example unlike Texas Hold'em, Pocket Aces hold very little value in Omaha and is in fact, very often won by playing straights, flushes and full house. The best starting hands are the suited or connected cards. Moreover, Omaha is hardly ever won with a top pair or a top set. At the Showdown in Omaha if the board offers you connected cards, it is better to get a nit straight, nut flush or nut full house. When determining the flop, it is essential to consider all potential hands that have the likelihood of being better than what you hold. With 4 hole cards, the possibilities of a good hand are wider. Typically, when Omaha players have several cards to work with, they will call to see the Flop only to see if they can get lucky. This is a critical mistake and must be avoided. Play tight and with strong starting hands to play Omaha profitably. Like in every other poker variant, to win at Omaha, poker players need to have the patience for strong starting hands, the discipline to remain calm and not go off on the tilt. Another important tip in playing Omaha is to start out at the lowest limits. This will ensure a tight poker strategy and help you to win at Omaha without risking too much. The next thing to remember is that if you are successful at low limits, be careful not to advance too fast. You must master each level of the stakes ladder slowly before moving on. Last but not the least, your bankroll should depend on the betting structure you choose to play. Fixed Limit generally requires 100x the Big Blind. No Limit and Pot Limit Omaha require 400x the Big Blind. It is important to have a large enough bank to survive the swings of the Omaha poker.

HOW TO PLAY TEXAS HOLD'em POKER

These are the basic rules of how to play Texas Hold'em or Texas Hold'em.

The Shuffle, The Deal and The Blinds.

In the casino version of Hold'em the Dealer does not play. A chip known as the dealer button moves clockwise from player to player to denote which player would be the dealer if the deal was advanced from player to player.

Most Texas hold'em games start with the two players to the left of the dealer button putting a predetermined amount into the pot before the hand is dealt this is called the blinds. The first player to the left of the dealer button puts in half of the blind and the next player to the left puts in the full amount of the blind. This assures that there is some money in the pot to play for.

Each player is dealt two cards face down. These are known as the hole cards.

  Betting begins.

A round of betting takes place after the hole cards are dealt. Beginning with the first player to the left of the two that posted the blind. Players can call, raise or fold in turn.

  The Flop.

After the first round of betting is complete. The dealer then discards the first card on the top of the deck face down. Then the dealer turns over three cards face up. These cards are known as the flop.

Note: Eventually, a total of five community cards will be placed face up on the table. All players can use the community cards and their hole cards to make the best hand possible.

After the flop another round of betting takes place, beginning with the player to the left of the dealer (the button). During this and all future rounds of betting, players can check, call, raise or fold when it is their turn.

  Fourth Street

The dealer burns another card face down then turns the next card face up with the three other community cards. This card is known as Fourth Street or the turn.

The player to the left (the button) then begins another round of betting.

   Fifth Street (The River )

After the round of betting is complete the dealer burns another card face down. The dealer then turns up the fifth and final community card. This card which is known as Fifth Street or the River is the final community card.

The fourth round of betting begins with the with the player to the left of the dealer or the button. If the player that had the button has folded their hand the next player to the left is the first to bet or check.

After the final round of betting is complete all  players that are left turn their cards over beginning with the player who made the initial bet or the player that made the last raise shows their cards first.

The Player With The Best Hand Wins.
