Standard Poker Hand Rankings


Often in poker the question arises who beats who and what beats what. This happens when two friends have the same hand. We will cover the rules on another page. But lets go over the hand rankings from the top to the bottom.

       #1. Royal Flush: A Royal Flush is the highest possible straight flush. It consists of the Ten, Jack, Queen, King and Ace all of the same suit.

       #2. Straight Flush: A Straight Flush consists of 5 consecutive cards the same suit. Example: 5,6,7,8,and 9 all of Spades.

       #3. Four Of A Kind: ( Quads) 4 cards the same number or Face. Example 4 Jacks.

       #4. Full House: (Full Boat ) A Full House consists of Three of one kind and a Pair of another. Example: Three-Tens and Two-Fives.

       #5. Flush: A Flush consists of 5 non consecutive cards the same suit. Example: 3,5,6,8 and 10 of Diamonds.

       #6. Straight: ( Run ) A Straight consists of 5 consecutive cards of varying suits. Example: 3 of Spades, 4 of Hearts, 5 of Diamonds, 6 of Clubs and 7 of Spades.

       #7. Three Of A Kind: ( Trips,Set) Three of a kind consists of 3 cards the same number or face. Example: 3 Jacks.

       #8. Two Pair: Two pair consists of 2 of one number or face and two of another number or face. Example: 2-Aces and 2-10's.

       #9. One Pair: One Pair consists of 2 of the same number or face. Example: 2-Kings

       #10. High Card: When no player has a hand consisting of a pair or better. The winner is the player with the highest card. Two is the lowest and Ace is the highest.
